FEMMES Program
FEMMES is an educational outreach program which stands for "Females Excelling more in Math, Engineering and Science." FEMMES was originally founded in 2005 at Duke University and now has chapters at multiple universities. The goals of the University of Michigan FEMMES groups are to address the gender disparity in STEM fields, instill in young women a life-long interest in science, encourage their self-confidence in these areas, and provide mentorship opportunities for young women with undergraduate and graduate student mentors at the university. In the fall and spring of the past years, we have taken part in the FEMMES capstone events at the University of Michigan! We have led the "Liquid Nitrogen Experience" which includes several liters of strawberry, chocolate and vanilla liquid nitrogen ice cream and the "Candy Acid-Base Chemistry" event! See below for selected pictures from the past capstone events!
